When I got here, one of the first things I asked about was if there were any good ghost stories. There's this one that we tell the kids, but it's pretty silly and obviously made up. But then they told me about the little girl up on the Crows Nest. The Lab (where I spend most of my time) is themed after a space ship. There are neon lights, computers, lab stuff, etc. The Club (for the younger ones) is Pirate themed. It's actually supposed to be Captain Hook's ship. It's really good too. If you go online to disney cruise line and look it up, I bet they have pics. It's called the Oceaneer Club. It's a lot darker, it's got barrels and stuff for the kids to climb up on, it's got a slide that is like part of the ship, and when you go up to go down the slide, there's a bridge made out of rope that takes you to the “Crow's Nest”. You can either use the bridge to get up there or a separate stair case. Underneath the crows nest is a room called the “Captain's Closet”. This is where they color, there's a Wii, there are a few computers. It looks like a captain's cabin in that it's got a window facing the front desk. The glass is all old looking and distorted so when you look in from the outside, things look deformed. When there are kids in there, it's a fun, cool looking place. But when it's 1am and you're the last one there and there are tons of little corners that you can't see, it gets slightly creepy.
So the story is that there is a little girl that haunts the slide, crows nest and captains closet. No one really knows much about it, except that she plays up there and sometimes talks to the kids. Some say that counselors have seen her walking around up there and others say that she's all over the Club. This one girl who used to be in Youth Activities years ago but has since moved to Cruise Staff was telling me that whenever she went into the handicapped/adult bathroom, the motion detector on the hand towel dispenser would go off by itself. Others think that she goes into the nursery, which is connected to the back of the club, and moves stuff around. There's one manager who's been here a while that just flat out refuses to go in the Club after the kids are gone. A few weeks ago two girls were telling me some of this stuff while we were closing the lab. One of them had to go to the nursery to pick something up (and therefore through the Club). She freaked out and I jumped in to say I'd go with her. Three of us ended up going and as soon as we got in there, I got nervous. Not because anything happened but just cuz I was already slightly freaked out. Haha. It was funny. The three of us ran across it giggling. We went into the nursery and then started back. The nursery door is right by the bathrooms. So Leah walks ahead and goes past the bathrooms, I was right by them and Jaime was taking a really long time locking the door. All of a sudden one of the doors inside the boys bathrooms slams shut! Right behind me! I jumped and my heart pretty much came out of my mouth. Then I see this huge shadow coming right towards me! Jaime saw my reaction and screamed. The poor housekeeper jumped too. Haha. He was just cleaning the bathrooms and we all failed to notice that he'd gone in there. I was laughing so hard. It was pretty funny.
Since then, I've had to close the club by myself a few times. The tweens have a PJ party in there during the 4day cruises until 1am and then I get to clean and sanitize everything. Usually I've been leaving the movie in it's been completely fine.
Yesterday, we were on the island and during my lunch break I was talking to some of the peeps that work in the Club. They said, you're not gonna believe what happened yesterday. A few said, No! Don't tell it. I don't want to hear about it!
There's this little boy this cruise, whom I met on the first day when he was getting registered. His name is Owen and he is autistic. It doesn't affect his social skills much. He's just a little hyperactive and it takes him a while to pay attention sometimes. Nice kid. So they ask me if I know him and I say yes. Michelle (one of the girls) said that yesterday Owen came running up to her and asked to go on the slide (they only open the slide at certain hours). Michelle said no, it's closed right now, we'll open it again later. Owen said, “well how come the girl is up there”. Michelle asked “what girl?” and went over to look up. Sometimes the kids climb over the little fence and help themselves to the slide. Owen kept pointing towards the Crow's Nest at absolutely nothing. Now Michelle stops and swears that she's not into this stuff at all but that she, honest to goodness, saw a shadow move across the bridge towards the back. Right where Owen kept pointing at. She said she freaked out but didn't say anything because we were so busy. I thought that was pretty exciting. But wait! There's more! Michelle said “if you think that's good, listen to sarah”. Sarah was also there with us and said she didn't want to tell it while she was eating. Well, we made her. She said that later that day, Owen came running up to her as well. She was at the front desk and michelle was gone by then. Sarah, btw, did not know what had happened with Michelle. So Owen came up and said, “there's a girl on the slide again”. Sarah went to investigate and didn't see a girl but he kept insisting that there was and that he wanted to go up there as well. So she asked him what she looked like and he said, “I don't know, there's stuff covering her face and I can't see it”...
Sarah said she freaked and told Owen to go play somewhere else while she ran and told all the counselors.
There are a few that don't believe a single word when it comes to hauntings and spirits, some just freak out. Then there are others, like me, who love it.
I hope I see her soon. We decided to call her Beatrice, which I think is pretty.
So there you go :) Cool huh?
